Tiverton Horse Drawn Barge
No trip to Devon is truly complete until you've visited the Horse Drawn Barge in Tiverton. Relax as you are pulled gently along the Grand Western Canal and let your cares disappear as you take in nature and learn a thing or two about the canal.
Walk the Grand Western Canal
The Grand Western Canal (not the Great Western Canal) stretches many miles along the Mid Devon countryside and has become a stunning linear nature reserve for all to enjoy.
There aren't may buildings that evoke such a feeling of history as Tiverton Castle. Tucked away beside St Peter's church in the town centre, you'd be forgiven for missing it if you weren't paying attention.

After your trip on the horse drawn barge you could continue your trip into the region's livng heritage by exploring the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life’s large, outstanding collections. You could trace the fascinating history of Mid Devon including the ‘Tivvy Bumper’, a GWR steam engine, local industries (particularly lace making), farm waggons and the history of agriculture, and the every day home life of MidDevon folk.
It is a family friendly museum, offering a warm welcome to everyone, with a lively temporary exhibition programme which changes regularly.
Tiverton Panier Market
Looking to do some local shopping? Why not check out Tiverton Pannier Market? Located in the town centre of historic Tiverton, originally the site of a Roman encampment. Markets have been held at this location for centuries. The modern refurbishment continues this proud tradition with a wide selection of locally sourced high quality produce, hand-made crafts and regular Electric Food nights.
Devon Railway Centre
Just outside of Tiverton in a village called Bickleigh, another popular tourist attraction is the Devon Railway Centre, which boasts a host of attractions and offers a unique railway experience, adding up to an interactive fun filled day out. With unlimited train rides around the centre, interactive model railways, indoor play shed, crazy golf and museums housed in old railway carriages, this is a fun day out for all the family.
Wall in the Hall
Whether you are an experienced climber, or haven't even seen a climbing wall before, at The Wall in the Hall there is something for everyone, from taster sessions (suitable for all the family) to coaching sessions to help improve the technique of the seasoned climber. The best part is that it's all indoors, so the weather is not a factor.
Knightshayes Court, managed by the National Trust, has grand Gothic Revival architecture by William Burges, the Victorian visionary, a great post-war garden and 19th-century parkland. With it's acres of awe inspiring garden and park, surrounding the breath-taking Gothic Revival house, Knightshayes is a must see for anyone who loves the outdoors and exploring history and culture.
