We can’t wait to let you know about our NEW little surprise!
Phil (the skipper of the horse-drawn barge) has a new recruit... an 11 week old border collie pup called ‘Hogan’. Phil said: “he’s great fun, a real little character and up for anything”.
Phil went on to explain: “This is the first male collie I’ve had. The first collie that worked with me on the horse-drawn barge was a border collie by the name of Megan back in 1989, then between 2005 and 2006 I had two border collies one called Molly and the other called Roxy".
"Roxy became quite famous, riding the horses she even had a Facebook page called 'Roxy the barge dog' named after her. And she spent her time playing stick on top of the barge with the visitors. We sadly lost Roxy at the age of 18, to old age in early 2024".
So in our 50th anniversary year it feels absolutely right to welcome ‘Hogan’ to his new home here on the Grand Western Canal he joins 'Tilly' a year old border collie that you may have seen running up and down at the basin, that belongs to Phil's daughter Becky.
Today 'Hogan' had his first ever trip experience on the barge... He loved it! We will of course let you all know how he gets on in his new life on the canal.
